To better catalogue the diverse local culture and way of life, curation efforts began before construction of the museum was completed. This involved reconstructing the streets of Yingge, adopting art as focal point and weaving it into the fabric of life in ways that allowed people to imagine different possibilities in space, time and living. This project invited eight artists, who used different artistic materials to guide members of the public, encouraging them to engage in dialogue and reflect on the relationship between art and life. Visitors were also invited to be part of the art and curation process through “artistic collaboration,” thereby establishing a connection between art and local memories.
The core concept of the final exhibition was “the streets are our museum,” with art created by artists and members of the public dotted throughout Yingge. This made art the focal point of every street corner, integrated it into the daily lives of local residents and created a sense of art unconfined by walls.

Sanying Art
Yingge is one of many regions in New Taipei with a deep cultural heritage. It was once the center of Taiwan’s ceramic art and mining industries, and the impact of that history on the natural environment and handicraft industry imbues the town with a unique artistic and cultural feel.
