New Taipei and Beyond – Art and Its Time

New Taipei and Beyond – Art and Its Time

Introduction

With “New Taipei and Beyond – Art and Its Time” as the central theme, artists and art historians were invited to focus on the local area, artists, happenings, groups and spaces, as they explored and developed their view of art in the history of New Taipei.

The series opens with “the three teachers of the Lin family in Banqiao” who came to Taiwan during the Qing Dynasty to teach at the residence of the Lin family in Banqiao. It then moves on to the period of Japanese rule in New Taipei with the artists Li Mei-shu and Lee Shih-chiao and next up is the unique artistic style of the post-war period, followed by reflections on the blossoming of avant-garde ideas in the post-martial law period.
